The NUP welcomes the Quad statement and calls for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan

The National Umma Party (NUP) welcomed the statement issued by the Foreign Ministers of the United States, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt regarding the crisis in Sudan, considering it an important step in the path of ending the war and achieving sustainable peace. The Party affirmed its support for the principles of the statement, most notably of which, the emphasis on achieving unity in Sudan and implementing a ceasefire.
The statement issued by the General Secretariat of the National Umma Party called on the parties to the conflict and political forces as well to prioritize the national interest and engage in a comprehensive political process led by the Sudanese.
Furthermore, the Party emphasized that the referenced statement represents a practical approach to ending the war and achieving a just and sustainable peace, reiterating the need to adhere to the principles contained therein, most notably; preserving Sudan’s unity, Sovereignty, and territorial integrity, implementing an immediate ceasefire, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, in addition to launching a transparent and credible political process led by the Sudanese and supported by the United Nations, the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
The (NUP) expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the International Quad to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and restore security and stability. It called on the warring parties to assume their national and moral responsibilities, place the nation’s interests above all other considerations, and return to negotiations, in an effort to engage in serious dialogue aimed at staunching the bloodshed and protecting the country from fragmentation and destruction.
In conclusion, the National Umma Party urged political and civil forces to unify ranks, overcome differences, and rally around a comprehensive national agenda that achieves a just and comprehensive peace, preserves Sudan’s unity, and reforms the path of democratic transition that will naturally lead to the establishment of a new Sudan based on freedom, justice, equality, democracy, and sustainable peace.
