Tasis to the UNSC: The legitimacy of the Peace and Unity Government stems from the will of the Sudanese people

Dr. Alaa El-Din Nugud, the official spokesperson for the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis), responded to the UN Security Council’s statement on the legitimacy of the Peace and Unity Government by sharing that the legitimacy of the Government stems from the genuine will of the Sudanese people.
Nugud added in a statement on Thursday that the legitimacy of the Peace and Unity Government stems from the support of broad segments of the Sudanese people who, under the authority of the Port Sudan government, have been deprived of their most basic and constitutional rights, including freedom of movement, access to official identification documents, and basic services. The entire world witnessed millions of Sudanese citizens taking to the streets to welcome the announcement of the Peace and Unity Government, which they view as a savior from injustice, a renewal of their hopes for restoring the path of democratic civil transition and achieving the goals of the glorious December 2018 Revolution of freedom, peace, justice, and equality.
A New Sudan
The statement commended the Security Council’s commitment to supporting Sudan and its people in their pursuit of peace, security, and stability. In addition to affirming the Sudan Founding Alliance’s readiness to cooperate with the international community in all efforts aimed at ending the war and building a country based on the foundations of freedom, peace, and justice.
The Founding Alliance emphasized that the only path to saving Sudan lies through the free will of its people, ending the war, and restoring the democratic civil rule. It called on all sincere national forces as well as regional and international partners to engage in genuine and serious efforts that place Sudan’s interests above all other considerations, work to preserve its unity and Sovereignty, and achieve the aspirations of its people for peace, freedom, and justice.
Sudan’s Unity
The official spokesperson for the Alliance stated that the unity of Sudan, both its land and people, is a non-negotiable and non-compromisable principle, as it represents the cornerstone of the Sudan Founding Alliance’s political project. He added that, “Our goal is to end the war and build a Secular Sudanese State that upholds the values of freedom, justice, and equal citizenship.”
Nugud went on to explain that the declaration of the Peace and Unity Government will serve to guarantee Sudan’s safety, stability, and unity in the face of the secessionist actions of the Port Sudan group, which ignited the war and went on to undermine all previous peace platforms and initiatives.
Conditions for Negotiations
Dr. Alaa El-Din Nugud pointed out that the Sudan Founding Alliance is fully committed to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that addresses the roots of the national crisis as well as the causes of war, and ensures the participation of all Sudanese components in shaping the country’s future. He emphasized that negotiations —as stated in all documents— is the means to end the war, nevertheless, it will not be similar to the previous rounds of negotiations, which were tampered with and sabotaged by the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood/National Congress Party.
The statement emphasized that protecting civilians is a national, moral, and legal duty, and that the Alliance strictly adheres to the International Humanitarian Law in all its operations and efforts to facilitate the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all affected areas.
The Appeals Regarding El-Fasher
The statement indicated that, in regards to the city of El-Fasher, the Sudan Founding Alliance, through its various levels of leadership and organizations, has issued several clear and public appeals calling on civilians to evacuate areas of active operations and has cleared secure humanitarian corridors for their exit. Furthermore, the Sudan Founding Alliance forces have managed to successfully evacuate more than (800,000 civilians) from El-Fasher to several safe locations, in compliance with International Humanitarian Law and out of concern for their lives and safety, despite the other party to the conflict’s continued obstruction of these efforts.
