The death of a Sudanese in an Egyptian prison sparks widespread outrage amongst the Sudanese community

In an incident that sparked widespread shock and concern amongst the Sudanese community in Egypt, Sudanese citizen Mujahid Adel Ahmed, an employee at Khartoum Airport, died inside Al-Ahram Police Station in Giza Governorate after being detained for (21 days) on charges of illegally entering the country.
According to informed sources, the death was attributed to complications from diabetes, whilst the deceased was awaiting deportation procedures to Sudan.
Relatives confirmed that he was accompanying his ailing father in Cairo. Moreover, Mujahid hailed from the city of Dongola and was the only son amongst several sisters. Prior to his tragic death, the family made continuous efforts to secure his release, to enable him to receive the much-needed medical treatment, however, the Egyptian authorities refused and kept him in detention until his death.
The incident has once again highlighted the plight of hundreds of Sudanese detained in Egyptian prisons and Police Stations after crossing the border to escape the devastating war in their country. Reports document their detention in mysterious circumstances, amidst growing demands for Sudanese refugees fleeing the conflict to be treated in a manner consistent with humanitarian values and International Law.
