Unionist Alliance: Khartoum Security Cell commits violations and tortures those opposing the war

The Unionist Alliance Party affirmed its rejection of what it called violations committed by the Khartoum State Security Cell against detainees.

The Alliance shared in a press release, “The Security cell is launching widespread arrest campaigns against citizens, Resistance Committees’ members, and those who choose to oppose the war.”

Furthermore, the Party expressed its deep concern and absolute rejection of the serious human rights violations taking place in Khartoum. The statement indicated that the security cell, supported by elements of the dissolved National Congress Party (NCP), is launching widespread arrest campaigns targeting citizens and activists, especially members of the Resistance Committees, in a blatant act of political targeting aimed at silencing voices calling for an end to the war.

Details of the Violations

In it’s statement, the Unionist Alliance Party explained that this cell monitors activists in neighborhoods through local informants, then arrests them and transfers them to the headquarters of the dissolved National Congress Party in Khartoum, where detainees are subjected to brutal torture and humiliation before being brought to sham trials that lack even the most basic standards of justice.

The Alliance emphasized that such practices constitute a flagrant violation of the Sudanese Constitution and laws, a blatant violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and an indisputable violation of the Convention against Torture, which Sudan has ratified.

The Unionist Alliance Party called for an immediate halt to the aforementioned campaigns, the immediate release of all detainees, the initiation of a transparent and independent investigation under the supervision of international and local human rights organizations, in addition to holding all those involved in these violations accountable.

In conclusion, the statement warned that the continuation of these practices will onlyserve to increase tension and deepen the political crisis, stressing that the Sudanese people’s will when it comes to freedom, justice, and peace is stronger than all tools of oppression and intimidation.
