The Phenomenon of Jibril Ibrahim!!

Dr. Omar Al-Qarray

{How (can there be such a covenant with them) that when you are overpowered by them, they regard not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant with you? With (good words from) their mouths they please you, but their hearts are averse to you, and most of them are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)}

~True are the words of Allah the Almighty

Jibril Ibrahim wasn’t a figure recognized in the Sudanese political scene until after the Muslim Brotherhood Coup took place in (June 1989). He was recalled from Saudi Arabia and given the rank of brigadier general in the National Security Service.

Meanwhile, he and Salah Gosh rented a house in Riyadh for Sheikh Osama bin Laden, at a time when the Muslim Brotherhood government was rounding up terrorists, and Al-Turabi believed he would become an international Islamic leader.

Under Osama bin Laden’s direction, Jibril transferred his money from Saudi Arabia, with the help of Waleed al-Dira’. Only for Bin Laden to exploit the numerous exemptions and vast lands granted to him by the Salvation (Inqaz) Government, and invest his wealth in Sudan.

When Al-Bashir’s government began to court the Americans and handed over a number of Islamic terrorists, Bin Laden was forced to leave Sudan. The Muslim Brotherhood plundered their brother in God’s wealth, and with some of that money, Jibril established the multi-purpose Al-Rahaw Trading Company, appointing his cousin as its director. Soon after, Al-Bashir’s government sent Jibril to study for his doctorate, however, he failed and returned disappointed. Nevertheless, he claims to have earned his doctorate (Social Media).

Truthfully, Jibril Ibrahim isn’t the leader of a liberation Movement, nor does he care about justice and equality. Rather, he is a war criminal, haunted by the souls of his victims. As his Movement executed (37 members) of the Meidob tribe by firing squad for protesting promotions within the Movement. In addition, fourteen people died of the cold after they were tied to a tree in Wadi Hawar in the winter. Predictably, they were found dead in the morning. He attacked the Gimir and Artega tribes, and in (2013), he killed Mohamed Bashir Ahmed along with (12) others after the signing of the Doha Agreement. They were all prisoners, and Jibril ordered them shot in the head. The UN Security Council condemned the incident in (Resolution 2113 of July 30th, 2013), and called for the arrest and accountability of the perpetrators, as well as for the International Committee to Monitor the Implementation of the Doha Agreement. An incident report has been filed in Chad, where the crime occurred, and in Sudan as well (Social Media).

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), led by Khalil Ibrahim and his brother Jibril Ibrahim, was unable to defeat Al-Bashir’s government for thirty years. Even after reaching Omdurman in a reckless advancement on (May 10th, 2008), it was defeated within hours, despite the government’s weakness and isolation from the people.

Nevertheless, when the youth staged a peaceful revolution, overthrowing the Muslim Brotherhood regime, and the transitional government made peace with the Armed Movements, that brought Jibril as Minister of Finance. Which begs the question; What did the revolution gain, and what did the people gain from Mr. Jibril’s existence ?!

The Muslim Brotherhood is known for their lack of innate intelligence, however, Jibril is a unique phenomenon in his stupidity. Although the revolution that brought him was waged by the people against the Muslim Brotherhood, his first move was to visit Al-Turabi’s house!! To demonstrate his loyalty to the Muslim Brotherhood, had Al-Turabi been alive, he would have sought his advice.

He then declared that he had purposefully chosen the Ministry of Finance, so he can easily take the people’s money and give it to his Movement!! And when his fanatical followers shouted that they wanted to destroy the high-rise buildings in Khartoum, he asked them not to destroy them, but to live in them instead!!

These were inhabited buildings; he meant to expel the citizens (owners) and occupy their homes. Thus, through his stupidity, he positioned himself against the people and the revolution from the very beginning.

Jibril’s first order of business was to empower his family and his Movement. He appointed a relative named Suleiman as his office manager, appointed his nephew, Al-Tahir, as his private secretary, and his nephew, Mohamed Al-Toum, as his second secretary. He also appointed Abdel Aziz Ushar and Suleiman Sandal as members of the boards of directors of major institutions.

Moreover, he appointed Dr. Mohamed Mustafa, a member of his Movement, as Tax Director, and Abdel Hafiz -also from the Jibril’s family- as Executive Director of Social Security. Moatasem Ahmed Saleh was appointed Director of the Thamarat Program, Najm el-Din Musa as Director General of Humanitarian Aid, and Saif Kuku as Director of the Social Security System (Social Media).

Jibril is reported to have stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) was in the business of investment companies, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized the gold, leaving his Movement with no choice but to seize tax revenues, service revenues, and government projects! If this is true, or even a joke, Jibril’s actions only confirm it. As, in reality, he raised taxes, increased the price of electricity, water, and gasoline, exacerbating inflation, and increased customs duties by (30%), leading to a decline in imports (Statement by the National Chamber of Importers, August 3rd, 2022).

Additionally, he exploited the Ministry to divert the country’s resources to the benefit of the Armed Movements. As (4,100 vehicles) and (2,000 containers) of personal belongings owned by members of the Armed Movements were exempted, of which his Movement received (700 vehicles.)

Furthermore, he admitted to exempting his nephew’s car from customs duties. This exemption comes after he issued a decision to suspend all exemptions from customs duties (Democrat Sudan Electronic Newspaper).

In his interview with (Sudania 24) TV channel, Jibril shared, “I granted my nephew an exemption from customs duties. I find no shame in it. Its not heresy, and I don’t view it as an abuse of influence or a form of corruption.” This statement is the greatest evidence of Jibril’s stupidity and his unworthiness to manage even his own affairs, let alone the State’s finances. If your nephew receives what others’ children do not, this is neither just nor equal; its therefore injustice. Allah the Almighty commands justice and forbids injustice. If you -truly- feel no shame in committing sins, are you an Islamic leader and the leader of a revolutionary Movement against injustice? As for your claim that what you did wasn’t heresy, that part is true. When it comes to the Muslim Brotherhood’s government, ots not, and that is why the people put forth diligent efforts to overthrow that regime. You know, deep down, that it was an abuse of influence, which is the very definition of corruption!

Jibril not only diverted tax and service revenues to his Movement, but also illegally took money directly from bank accounts for his Movement. The new Commissioner General for Investment for Sudanese Pensions, who belongs to the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), accompanied by Jibril Ibrahim, withdrew (18 trillion) Sudanese pounds, in addition to a deposit in Emirati dirhams, from pension funds from the Farmers’ Commercial Bank (Social Media). It’s worth noting that the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Social Development, the Commissioner General of the Investment Authority, and the Director General of Pensions are all members of (JEM).

At such juncture, I wish Jibril had confined himself to plundering the Sudanese people’s money to benefit his family and Movement alone. However, out of fear of accountability, believing that the Muslim Brotherhood’s return to power was imminent and the latter would protect him, moreover, because the depth of the Muslim Brotherhood’s baseness within himself, he was quick to reinstate them and strengthen them with public funds.

On Jibril’s orders, the Governor of the Bank of Sudan, Hussein Janqoul, issued orders to operating banks to unfreeze the accounts of (150) individuals and companies affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, from the Justice and Equality Movement, also re-registered (23 organizations) dissolved by the Committee for Dismantling the June 30th, 1989 Regime. These organizations include:

– The Maarij Foundation for Peace and Development (MFPD), a hotbed of corruption. Its board of directors is chaired by Mohamed Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, the ousted President’s brother. The foundation had seized (28 plots) of endowment land, some of which were used to build investment towers, in addition to the land on which the Kafouri Club and Thanaa Mall were built in Al-Nour Complex.

– The Sanad Charitable Organization, in addition to, Iam (ana) Sudan Organization, run by the ousted President’s wife, Widad Babiker, were funded with substantial sums from the State Treasury.

– The General Union of Women, the National Union of Youth, the Working Women’s Association, and the General Union of Sudanese Students, all are fronts for the dissolved National Congress Party (NCP). Funds were disbursed from the Ministry of Finance, through a standing order, under the account of the dissolved Party’s organizational fronts.

– The African Association for Motherhood and Childhood Care, as well as the Global Health Foundation, affiliated with MADA – Islamic Appeal Organization, the sponsor of the (June 30th, 1989) coup.

– The Food Bank Organization, affiliated with Ali Osman Mohamed Taha (founder of the Shadow Brigades), which owns a number of investments and has received countless exemptions. (From the statement of the Committee for Dismantling the June 30th, 1989 Regime, September 5th, 2022).

Jibril Ibrahim is attempting to make the most of it. He emulates all the evils of the Muslim Brotherhood in their hostility towards the people, their hatred of them, their attempts to impoverish and starve them, and their brutality as punishment for daring to overthrow their regime. In doing so, he exploits the cowardice and weakness of Al-Burhan and his group, threatening them sometimes with the promise of returning to war, and sometimes with his relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, reminding them that they will return. As for the people, none of them respect his covenant or pledge, nor do they value him as he proved unworthy, however he is going about his business, victorious through his Lord (Indeed, their appointment is [for] the morning. Is not the morning near?)
