Controversy in Sudan incited by appointing Al Bashir’s lawyer as Al Burhan’s Minister of Justice

Kamil Idris, the Prime Minister appointed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has added five new ministers to Al-Burhan’s Port Sudan Authority, bringing the total number of appointments to (10) ministers out of (22) ministerial portfolios since Kamil’s appointment last May.
However, the appointment of Abdullah Darf as Minister of Justice in the Port Sudan Authority sparked widespread controversy, given that he was a leader in the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) during the era of ousted President Omar Al-Bashir. He was also a member of the defense team for Al-Bashir and other figures from the former Islamist-dominated regime during their trial in (2019). Observers believe this decision signals the return of the Islamic Movement toppled by a popular revolution in (April 2019).
In addition, Idris yielded to pressure from the Armed Movements constituting the “Joint Force”, allied with the Sudanese Army, as he retained their ministers in the new government, amongst said ministers is Jibril Ibrahim, head of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), as the latter was allowed to resume his duties in the Ministry of Finance.
