Al Hilu: Tasees is the path to establishing a new Sudan and we will not repeat history

The head of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), Lt. Gen. Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu, emphasized that the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasees) is the path towards building a new Sudan, a State neither governed by elites nor fragmented by wars. He considered the formation of the alliance a strategic response to the old Sudanese State’s failure to achieve national unity and justice.
In a speech described as historic on the occasion of announcing the Leadership Body of the Sudan Founding Alliance, Al-Hilu stated: “There will be no more forced unity… The new Sudan will be built with free will.”
The head of the (SPLM-N) explained that the Alliance “is putting forth diligent efforts into dismantling the Islamist systems and restore the State for the benefit of the Sudanese people in general, not a particular elite or group.” He continued, “The old Sudan was built on violence and marginalization… and we will not repeat history.”
Al-Hilu declared his rejection of fragile settlements, affirming his commitment to rebuilding the State. He explained that the (SPLM-N) and its partners in (Tasees) aren’t seeking to attain temporary political positions or settlements, rather, they are working to achieve a historic break with the failed State structure and build a new social contract that recognizes diversity and establishes justice and equality.
In a different context, Al-Hilu described the Nuba Mountains region as a model of coexistence, adding, “However, the regime has exploited it as an arena for its racist wars.” He pointed out that the de facto authority in Port Sudan’s appointment of a defense minister from the Nuba Mountains region is a blatant attempt to isolate the Movement politically and dismantle its popular base, especially following the collapse of the military establishment.
The head of the (SPLM-N) shared that political Islam has destroyed Sudan, and (Tasees) is declaring war on it. He emphasized that the Alliance is waging a war against the advocates of political Islam, who were responsible for killing more than three million citizens in the name of religion. He added that unity is built on the foundations of justice and equality, not on historical oppression and exploitation.
In conclusion, Al-Hilu called on the forces to join Tasees’ process in an effort to build a State, explaining, “No one is to be excluded, and returning to the past is not allowed… The struggle continues, and victory is certain.”
