Jerusalem Post: Al Burhan poses an existential threat and Israel ought to address it

A report by the Israeli newspaper, the (Jerusalem Post), stated that the Commander of the Port Sudan forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has become an existential threat to Israel, hence, the aforementioned threat ought to be dealt with, by eliminating his regime.
The report added that Sudan is no longer merely a battleground for a civil war, but has become an “emerging outpost” in Iran’s global terror campaign against Israeli and Western interests, such actions are aided by Al-Burhan.
The newspaper explained in its report that Al-Burhan stands at the heart of Sudan’s transformation into a center tasked with targeting Israeli interests, noting that every day Al-Burhan remains in power is another day that Tehran gains ground in its effort to surround, weaken, and ultimately destroy the Jewish state.
According to the Jerusalem Post’s report, Al-Burhan is “the gatekeeper of terrorism in Sudan,” in reference to his explicit alliance with Tehran, through which he has garnered continued military support in his war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Furthermore, the report pointed out that the war on “Iranian terrorism” isn’t limited to Israel’s borders, but rather is regional and global, and in Sudan, it has a name: Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The report explained that Al-Burhan’s personality cannot be described as “moderate” or “pragmatic”. Rather, he is an individual who seeks to empower the Muslim Brotherhood, an ally of Hamas, and a pliable tool for Tehran to expand its influence across the Middle East and Africa.
In addition, the newspaper highlighted Iran’s continued military support for Al-Burhan’s forces, providing the latter with drones and weapons assembly technology. It also noted the infiltration of Iranian intelligence elements in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, which -in turn- exacerbates the risks to Israel.
The Jerusalem Post emphasized that Tel Aviv’s disregard for this imminent threat represents a risk for the State, as Iran has long sought to expand and besiege Israel by extending its influence in Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and now Sudan, with the aim of surrounding Israel and hindering its access to seaports.
According to the report, Iran’s actions in Sudan represent a continuation of Tehran’s policy of exploiting “failed States” as “bases for terrorism” directed against Israel and the West.
The report explicitly called on Israeli decision-makers to eliminate “Al-Burhan’s regime” directly or indirectly, noting that this isn’t only in Tel Aviv’s interest but also in the interest of its allies in the region.
It considered the challenge facing Israel regarding Iranian expansion in Sudan to be a “matter of survival,” noting that Al-Burhan has transformed Sudan into a part of the “global network” of extremists, as he allowed extremist groups, particularly Al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood, to operate freely in Sudan with impunity.
Moreover, it stated that Al-Burhan has formed a close alliance with Hamas, hence, Sudan under his leadership has quietly become a sanctuary for Hamas operatives and leaders, noting that Al-Burhan’s continued rule grants Hamas an opportunity to regroup and regenerate following its dismantling in the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper’s report called for a coordinated campaign to remove Al-Burhan and his regime, which the newspaper described as “sponsoring terrorism.” This campaign would include international intelligence coordination to prevent arms smuggling to Port Sudan forces, imposing economic sanctions on entities involved in Iranian arms transfers or harboring Hamas operatives, supporting the Sudanese Peace Government, and disrupting Iranian logistical infrastructure and spy networks in Sudan.
In conclusion, the report called for a firm US stance on Al-Burhan, treating him as an Iranian proxy, and stressing that isolating Al-Burhan isn’t a purely Sudanese matter but rather a blow to the core of Iran’s regional expansion project.
