Citizen arrested by SAF for documenting one of its members looting citizens’ homes in Bahri

Military Intelligence arrested Ahmed Abdel-Qader Mohamed Ali after he filmed a video documenting a member of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) looting homes in Al-Safiya neighborhood in the suburb of Khartoum Bahri.
Military Intelligence confiscated Ahmed Abdel-Qader’s phone and took him to an unknown location. In addition, Eyewitnesses reported on social media that Ahmed is facing charges of belonging to the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) alliance, which later morphed into accusations of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Furthermore, his family and relatives have been unable to locate or contact him to date.
Local sources from Al-Safiya neighborhood shared that Ahmed is the grandson of Sheikh Awadallah Saleh and is known amongst his family and acquaintances for his piety, lacking political affiliations, and being a highly responsible person. They added: “Ahmed refused to be displaced, to travel with his family to Egypt, instead he chose to remain home in Al-Safiya. The house that was robbed -as the video shows- belonged to his neighbors, who, like thousands of Sudanese nationals, had been displaced to the provinces. Ahmed felt responsible for the homes of his neighbors as well as his own, hence, he objected and filmed the robbery.”
“Ahmed’s whereabouts are now unknown, and his life is in danger due to these serious accusations. No one knows his current whereabouts or the possible mistreatment he may face. Citizen Ahmed Abdel-Qader’s actions were limited to what any Sudanese man with a sense of responsibility towards his family and neighbors ought to do when faced with a similar situation. He who remains silent about the truth is a mute devil. Ahmed’s actions weren’t motivated by a political stance or an affiliation with any political party in particular, but were simply what his conscience and sense of responsibility dictated. Ahmed should be released immediately and returned to his home and family,” according to the local sources.
