UN: Arbitrary killings tripled in number due to executions carried out by SAF in Sudan

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk stated that arbitrary killings of civilians in Sudan tripled in number between February and April, largely due to summary executions by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of alleged collaborators with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum.
The aforementioned statement came during his address at the opening of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council on Monday.
Türk explained that the escalation of hostilities in North Darfur and Kordofan has been marked by serious violations of the International Humanitarian Law and human rights, adding that Sudan is plunging deeper into a cycle of chaos and lawlessness in the absence of sufficient international attention.
The UN High Commissioner called on the international community to push for a political solution, stop the flow of weapons, and curb the business interests fueling the conflict, stressing the necessity of holding all parties accountable.
Furthermore, the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan, established to investigate the human rights situation in Sudan; is scheduled to deliver an oral briefing today, Tuesday, during the 59th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
It is worth noting that the Mission was formed by a Council resolution two years ago, and its mandate was renewed last year.
