Eastern Sudan components threaten Al Burhan, warning against any transgressions against the Beja (video)

Ali Ukod, a leader and head of the Democratic Front in Eastern Sudan, threatened the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan with “wiping him off the face of the earth” if he infringes on the Beja people. Naturally,  thisfurther complicates the situation in the eastern Sudanese region, where the administrative capital was moved -to Port Sudan, specifically- following the outbreak of the (April 15th, 2023) war.

In a video clip filmed while Ali was surrounded by a large gathering of local communities, he threatened Al-Burhan with “wiping him off the face of the earth” if the General Nazir of the Beja people, Mohamed Al-Amin Terik, was bypassed in the political settlement taking place in Port Sudan. This message has been described as “bold” by several observers.

Since late May, Al-Burhan’s recently appointed Prime Minister, Kamil Idris, has been holding consultations in Port Sudan with the Sudanese Army’s allies, in an effort to form his government. However, press reports have relayed information regarding disagreements and conflict over ministerial portfolios and the share of power held by the Darfuri Movements under the banner of (the Joint Force).

The head of the Democratic Front in Eastern Sudan stressed that his threat to Al-Burhan was serious, and that no one, whoever they might be, could bypass the “Beja Nation,” represented by Nazir Terik.

He went on to stipulate that Al-Burhan ought to provide them with combat vehicles, similar to what he had previously provided to -what he called the “Merry Trio,” without revealing further details about their identities.

Furthermore, he continued to threaten Al-Burhan-using a rather harsh tone- that if the Beja people weren’t provided with vehicles, they would simply seize all vehicles in eastern Sudan.

Ukod threatened Al-Burhan, his deputy, Shams El-Din Al-Kabbashi, and his assistant, Yasser Al-Atta, with closing the port, airport, and highways if Nazir Terik and the Beja Nation were ignored.

The aforementioned statements by the head of the Democratic Front, Ali Ukod, come amidst escalating political tensions between the factions within the military camp and the Islamic Movement. As a new Prime Minister was appointed by Al-Burhan and the government was promptly dissolved, sparking disputes over the division of power.
