JEM welcomes US sanctions on the Sudanese Army

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) announced its welcome of US sanctions on the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for its use of prohibited chemical weapons against innocent civilians.

Last week, the US Administration issued sanctions against the Sudanese Army for its use of chemical weapons against civilians in Sudan.

The (JEM) shared in a statement that, based on reports, information, evidence, and testimonies observed during military operations in both Wad Medani and Al-Jaili Oil Refinery; the terrorist brigades have documented the use of Mustard Gas (Sulfur Mustard). The Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, Yasser Al-Atta stated that they will use lethal and covert force, as authorized by SAF’s Commander-in-Chief, which in reality are prohibited chemical weapons.

The use of chemical weapons has also been reported around the Republican Palace, in Mellit, Al-Koma, in addition to a number of areas in Darfur, as well as the Nuba Mountains.

The Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement welcomed the US Administration’s decision, considering it a successful step in exposing the plots of the Sudanese Army, which it described as hijacked by the “remnants of the ousted regime” and its affiliated terrorist groups. These groups ignited the war with the aim of destroying the remaining Sudanese territory and carrying out systematic genocide operations against the Sudanese society and people.

The statement emphasized that the use of internationally prohibited weapons constitutes a flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, and the Geneva Conventions on the protection of civilians in conflict zones, and the prohibition of the use of chemical weapons.

According to the Movement, the Sudanese Army, which has long been addicted to humiliating and debasing the Sudanese people through killing and torture since the first spark of the rebellion against the Central Authority that broke out in Torit in (1955), prior to Sudan’s independence, as the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for the leaders of the hijacked Sudanese Army and its terrorist elements for committing crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Indeed, the Security and Military Forces of the former regime used internationally prohibited weapons, which manifested in the form of chronic diseases, deformed births, and contaminated water that even harmed livestock.

The Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement condemned what it described as a despicable and offensive approach, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of children, women, the elderly, and innocent civilians, in addition to contaminating the clean drinking water used by citizens and livestock.

On the other hand, the Movement emphasized that there is no way to stop these horrific violations, crimes, and systematic genocide except by uprooting the National Congress Party (NCP) along with the Islamic Movement, putting an end to these terrorist militias falsely referred to as the Sudanese Army. To achieve the aforementioned aims, the Movement renews its call to international and regional organizations as well as the UN Security Council to enforce the arms and air embargo and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.

The Movement also called on the honorable people of Sudan to stand firm, confront, and expose the schemes of the remnants and terrorist groups that comprise the so-called Sudanese National Army. Consequently, it calls on them to stand firmly with the Government of Unity and Peace, whose priorities include establishing a professional Army and regular forces that work to protect the Constitution, borders, and national security, as stipulated in international and regional constitutions, charters, and treaties.
