The Port activity in Port Sudan declines

On Thursday, drone attacks targeting the city of Port Sudan resumed at dawn, for the twelfth consecutive day. Similar attacks also occurred in Kassala.
Regarding the impact of the drone attacks on port operations, Osman Tahir, a union leader in the seaports, told (Radio Dabanga) that port activity continues despite the drone attacks. He noted that the activity declined in comparison with the situation prior to the drone attacks.
He explained that port activity had declined significantly since the outbreak of the war two years ago, however, the activity improved following the Sudanese Army’s control of Al-Jazeera state as well as large parts of Khartoum state. Nonetheless, the drone attacks have led to further disruption.
He shared that the drone attacks will increase shipping and insurance costs for ships to Port Sudan, which will -in turn- lead to higher prices for imported goods.
