The Inflation rate rises in Sudan
Sudan’s Central Bureau of Statistics revealed information in regards to a recorded rise in the inflation rate in the month of March compared to February, with a monthly change rate of (15.32%).
The inflation rate measures the change in the general price level for the current month of the year compared to its counterpart for the previous year. Its an annual measure, meaning the rate of change in the general price level over a year is measured by dividing the difference between the price index for (March 2025) and the price index for (March 2024) by the price index for (March 2024) multiplied by (100).
The General Index
The bureau explained in a statement on Monday that the general consumer price index for (March 2025) recorded an increase, reaching (441,121.28) points for March, compared to (382,533.02) points in (February 2025),i.e, an increase of (58,588.26) points, representing a monthly change rate of (15.32%).
The Central Bureau of Statistics explained that the general Consumer Price Index (CPI) for food and beverages recorded (163,924.76) points for the month of(March 2025), compared to (162,439.07) points recorded in (February 2025), with a calculated increase of (1485.69) points, representing a monthly rate of change of (0.91%).
As for the annual rate of change (inflation) for March, the consumer goods and services price index recorded (441,121.28) points for (March 2025), compared to (161,170.82) points in (February 2024), i.e, an increase of (279,950.46) points, conveying an annual rate of change (inflation) of (173.70%) (meaning that the rate of change in the general price level in (March 2025) increased by (173.70%) compared to its counterpart in the previous year).
The Consumer Goods and Services Price Index for the Food and Beverages group reached (163,924.76) points in (March 2025), compared to (75,434.81) points in (March 2024), an increase of (88,489.95) points, with an annual change rate (inflation) of (117.31%) (i.e., the price rate of change for the Food and Beverages group in March 2025 increased by 117.31% compared to the previous year).
Urban and Rural Areas
The urban consumer price index recorded (330,947.68) points for (March 2025), compared to (124,823.88) points in (March 2024), an increase of (206,123.80) points, with an annual rate of change (inflation) of (165.13%), i.e., the urban price rate of change in (March 2025) increased by (165.13%) compared to the previous year.
The consumer price index in rural areas recorded (559,272.79) points for (March 2025), compared to (198,549.86) points in (March 2024), an increase of (360,722.93) points, with an annual rate of change (inflation) of (181.68%), (meaning that the rate of change in prices in rural areas in March 2025 increased by 181.68% compared to its counterpart in the previous year).
