Using Internationally Prohibited Weapons

African-European Organization: The Tura Massacre is a war crime and Systematic Genocide

The African-European Organization for Humanitarian Action and Development described the massacre committed by the Sudanese Armed Forces’ warplanes in (Tura), North Darfur as a dangerous escalation of military operations against civilians.

The African-European Organization shared in a statement that, on Monday, (March 24th, 2025), warplanes launched an airstrike targeting the market of Tura village, located (45) kilometers north of El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries amongst unarmed civilians.

The statement explained that the attack occurred on Monday, which coincides with the weekly market’s busiest day, when residents of neighboring villages flock to the market, in addition the market is a primary economic resource for the residents of El-Fasher.

Internationally Prohibited Weapons !!!

The African-European Organization for Humanitarian Action and Development went on to describe the crime as a flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law, noting that the airstrike resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians. It explained that field photos documented by eyewitnesses showed numerous charred bodies, raising serious concerns about the Sudanese Army’s use of internationally prohibited weapons, including Chemical Weapons or Incendiary Bombs.

In their statement, the organization shared that targeting markets and crowded civilian areas amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity, in addition, its a continuation of the repression and genocide pursued by the Port Sudan government, headed by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, against specific ethnic and regional groups in Sudan. Explaining that this systematic policy aims to reduce the population in certain areas and strip them of their property, thus strengthening the political and economic hegemony of a specific group of military and tribal elites, as they ruled Sudan for decades.

The Islamic Movement’s Plots !!

The Organization’s statement noted that General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan has a history of gross human rights violations. He was one of the officers who participated in the bloody crackdowns in Darfur, starting when he was a military commander in (Zalingei), Central Darfur. He continues to pursue this approach by harnessing the capabilities of the Sudanese Army to target specific areas and eliminate their populations, taking advantage of the scheming network affiliated with the Islamic Movement in Khartoum, which operates according to an ethnic and regional vision aimed at preserving power and wealth under the control of a specific group.

The African-European Organization added in their statement that the recent airstrikes carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) demonstrate that they aren’t random, but rather carefully planned to target specific population groups. This reinforces accusations that these operations aim to reduce the numbers of certain ethnic groups and deprive them of the ability to compete politically and economically. The forces controlling power in Sudan have treated the demographic growth of non-dominant tribes as a threat that must be contained through policies of displacement and ethnic cleansing.

Call for An Urgent International Investigation !!

The African-European Organization for Humanitarian Action and Development strongly condemns these heinous massacres and calls on the international community to take urgent steps to stop these serious violations by launching an independent international investigation under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) and competent judicial bodies to uncover the ongoing war crimes and violations in Sudan.

The investigation should also impose severe sanctions on Sudanese military leaders involved in targeting unarmed civilians, including General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and other military officials. It should also dispatch fact-finding teams to Darfur to document the crimes and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to international justice.

In addition, humanitarian efforts should be intensified to provide urgent assistance to those affected, especially the displaced persons suffering through catastrophic humanitarian conditions. It should also protect civilians by strengthening the role of international organizations and lobbying for the establishment of internationally protected safe zones in Darfur as well as other affected areas.

Silence Encourages Atrocities !!

The African-European organization believes that continued international silence regarding these crimes will encourage the perpetrators to commit further atrocities against civilians. Therefore, the African-European Organization for Humanitarian Action and Development holds the Sudanese Army fully responsible for the massacres it continues to commit in Darfur and calls for an urgent international response to end these crimes and bring those responsible to justice.
