Chad: SAF Deputy Commander’s statements are a Declaration of War

The Chadian Foreign Ministry expressed in a statement, on Monday, that the statements made by Yasser Al -Atta, the Deputy Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), are considered a declaration of war on Chad, stressing the State’s right to defend itself.

Upon addressing the funeral service of the military media official in the State of El-Gedaref, eastern Sudan, Al -Atta stated that the airports of Amdjarass and N’Djamena are now considered “two legitimate military targets” for the Sudanese Army.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement believed that “Al -Atta’s statements included explicit threats to the security and safety of the State’s territory,” warning that such statements will lead to a serious escalation in the entire region.

The Chadian Foreign Ministry accused Sudan of attempting to destabilize Chad, using “terrorist” means, emphasizing Chad’s right to respond decisively to any attempt to attack its territory.

“If one square meter of Chadian territory is threatened, the State’s response will be decisive in accordance with international legal principles,” according to the Chadian Foreign Ministry.

The aforementioned statement emphasized Chad’s commitment to impartiality in regards to the Sudanese internal conflict, as it puts forth diligent efforts in contribution to the process of achieving solutions to the tragedy that the Sudanese have been experiencing for nearly two years.

The Chadian Foreign Ministry shared that the conflict in Sudan is an internal matter whose responsibility falls to the warring parties alone. “The current situation is the consequence of policies adopted by Sudanese leaders, and not the result of any interference from Chad.”

The statement called on the leaders of the Sudanese Army to focus on the immediate cessation of hostilities in their country, instead of “uttering absurd threats.”
