Egypt informs Eritrea of its rejection of establishing a Russian Military Base on the Red Sea

On Saturday, following the Port Sudan Authority’s announcement of an agreement with Russia to establish a Military Base on the Red Sea, Egypt emphasized its rejection of the participation of any non-littoral State on the Red Sea in its security and governance.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Aati conveyed a verbal message from President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to his Eritrean counterpart, Isaias Afwerki regarding strengthening and developing bilateral relations in various fields, in addition to regional issues of common interest to both countries.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdel Aati’s meeting with Afwerki witnessed an exchange of views in regards to regional issues of common interest.
The meeting also discussed the situation in Libya and the African Sahel region, as well as developments in the Red Sea, according to the statement, emphasizing the rejection of the participation of any non-littoral State on the Red Sea in its security and governance.
