Al Hilu and RSF alliance is a shock to Al Burhan and a pivotal shift in the Sudanese conflict

The People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) faction, led by Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu’s choice to join the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasees) and the government to be established in Sudan, constituted a pivotal shift and a strategic breakthrough in the course of the Sudanese crisis, according to experts.

Sudanese sources reported the conclusion of the final consultations on the political declaration and the interim constitution document, expecting the two documents to be signed today, in order to establish the Government of Peace and Unity in Sudan.

Experts confirmed, in statements to (Erem News), that Al-Hilu’s joining constituted a major shock to the Military Authority based in Port Sudan and headed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

The new alliance includes political parties, Armed Movements, Civil Administrations, and community entities, as it consists of three levels of government: a Sovereignty Council, another for Ministers representing the executive authority, and a Parliament as the legislative and oversight authority.

A number of observers considered Al-Hilu’s choice to join the new alliance as a major breakthrough in the long-standing stalemate with the (SPLM-N), an important step towards building Sudan, and a significant endeavor to achieve comprehensive and just peace throughout the country, which would dismantle the complexities of the reality inherited since Sudan’s independence.

The (SPLM-N) is made up of Sudanese citizens who chose to stand with the State of South Sudan during the civil war led by the late (SPLM) leader John Garang De Mabior. Following the secession of South Sudan in (2011) according to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which granted the Nuba Mountains and the Nile what was known as “Popular Consultation”, war quickly broke out, and the (SPLM-N) faction led by Al-Hilu, assumed control of the fortified mountainous Kauda region, and established an independent Civil Administration that continued to govern the region.

A Pivotal Shift and Culmination of the Struggle

In this context, a leader and member of the Rapid Support Forces’ Negotiating Delegation, Ezz El-Din Al-Safi, told (Erem News) that “The participation of the (SPLM-N) faction, led by General Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu, in the Nairobi Conference represents a historic moment in the birth of the Sudanese State and its re-establishment on new foundations.”

Al-Safi promised that Al-Hilu’s choice to join the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasees), after a struggle that lasted well over (40) years, is a pivotal shift and a major breakthrough in the course of the Sudanese crisis.

“General Al-Hilu’s participation represents the culmination of all the struggles of the revolutionaries of the margins for well over (60) years, at a moment when all the Sudanese people chose to unite to achieve the vision of establishing the Sudanese State and addressing the roots of the crisis in order to establish a new homeland in which all injustices come to an end, and people are equal on the basis of citizenship without discrimination or exclusion,” according to the member of the Rapid Support Forces’ Negotiating Delegation, Ezz El-Din Al-Safi.

A National Project

Abdul Aziz Adam Al-Hilu leads the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) faction, which is based in (Kauda) in the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan state as a “liberated” area and has ruled it exclusively, being far removed from the Central government in Khartoum since (2011). Throughout that period, he has been fighting with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in South Kordofan and part of Blue Nile states.

The inaugural session of the Nairobi Conference witnessed the participation of the Deputy Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Abdel Rahim Daglo, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) – Suleiman Sandal faction, the Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance (SLFA), led by El-Taher Hajar, the leaders of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), the head of the National Umma Party (NUP), Fadlallah Burma Nasser, the head of the political sector (Political Secretary) of the original Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), Eng. Ibrahim Al-Mirghani, the head of the People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) – Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu faction, in addition to significant groups including intellectuals, Civil and Religious Administrations, as well as Sufi Orders.

The National Aspect and Military Influence

In a similar context, political analyst Al-Jameel Al-Fadil explained that “The head of the (SPLM-N), General Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu’s choice to join the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasees) isn’t an arbitrary incident, because the Movement’s presence along with its social components is likely to gain the alliance a national dimension that goes beyond the narrow ethnic classifications and expands the area of land on which the authority of the awaited Peace Government will be established.”
