Al Burhan maneuvers to exclude Islamists to prevent the formation of a legitimate government

Experts considered the statements of the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, in regards to preventing supporters of “Al-Bashir’s Party” from returning to power as a mere political maneuver, aimed at blocking the path of forces seeking to form a legitimate government in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The experts shared, in statements to (Erem News), that Al-Burhan cannot deal with the Brotherhood, as they’re -in reality- controlling the decision in regards to the war. At the same time, they believe that forming a parallel government in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces represents a major threat to his authority, especially if the newly formed government earns the support of influential political forces.

The blood of the Sudanese

On Saturday, Al-Burhan threatened in statements to exclude supporters of the former president’s regime from power in the future, stressing that they “Won’t be able to restore their power,” according to his expression.

Al-Burhan added, in statements reported by local media, that “He will appoint independent competent Ministers, and a civilian Prime Minister will be chosen on consensus basis. In addition, the Sudanese Army won’t interfer with his duties.”

He pointed out that the National Congress Party (NCP) and others who seek to rule must resort to elections in the future, adding that “They won’t find an opportunity to rule the country, and they must steer clear from conflict if they are patriotic,” according to his expression.

A Political Maneuver

In this context, political analyst Salah Hassan Jumaa believes that it is merely a political maneuver aimed at courting (Tagadom) in order to prevent them from forming a parallel government in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces.

Jumaa shared, in a statement to (Erem News), that “The biggest threat to Al-Burhan’s plots to stay in power is the formation of a parallel government, which reduces him to racing against time to thwart these attempts by all means necessary. ”

He explained that Al-Burhan fears the support of the political forces involved in (Tagadom) of the parallel government, because it may gain domestic and international legitimacy, which could possibly pull the rug out from under his government, that is controlled by supporters of Al-Bashir’s Party.

Salah Hassan Jumaa stressed that Al-Burhan’s statements regarding power are nothing more than an attempt to gain the support of democratic forces that champion the disengagement of the Sudanese Army from supporters of the former regime.

He added that his statements about welcoming those who abandon supporting the rebellion reflect his efforts to convince these forces to join his government instead of the parallel government.

Political analyst Salah Hassan Jumaa pointed out that Al-Burhan’s directive to lift the ban on people banned from obtaining their documents aims to undermine one of the justifications for forming the parallel government, which seeks to issue identification documents to those deprived of the right to obtain them.

Jumaa stressed that Al-Burhan cannot actually abandon the Islamists, and his statements about excluding them is a “maneuver” he has been repeating since the overthrow of Al-Bashir, noting that the leaders of the National Congress Party are still part of his government, hold their meetings under his protection, and even travel through Port Sudan Airport with complete freedom.

He emphasized that Al-Burhan protects leaders accused of war crimes, and refuses to hand them over to the International Criminal Court (ICC), such as Al-Bashir, Ahmed Haroun, and Abdel Rahim Mohammed Hussein.

“Al-Burhan cannot confront the Islamists, as he is their creation and obeys their orders. Perhaps even the step of forming a government and a founding declaration is drived from their plans, according to their usual method of deception and evasion,” according to Salah Hassan Jumaa’s expression.

He also pointed out that Al-Burhan seeks to achieve his ambitions by any means necessary, whether through war or peace, while the Islamists understand his goal, hence, they exercise what he wants, and he -in return- implements their agenda, which makes the relationship between them inseparable.

Maneuvers and Deception

For his part, political analyst Daoud Khater described Al-Burhan’s statements regarding removing the Islamists from power as mere “Maneuvers and deception” of public opinion, which rejects the hegemony of Al-Bashir’s Party supporters over the Sudanese Army and their insistence on the continuation of the war.

Khater told (Erem News) that Al-Burhan cannot sever ties with the Islamists, because they are leading the battles on the ground in the absence of the Sudanese Army, adding: “Therefore, he cannot confront them, and his statements are nothing but an attempt to deceive the Sudanese people.”

He explained: “If Al-Burhan hadn’t been a tool in the hands of the Islamists, he wouldn’t have carried out the October 25th, 2021 Coup against the transitional government headed by Hamdok, which was part of the Islamic Movement’s plan to exclude political forces and hinder the path of civilian rule.”

“Therefore, Al-Burhan’s statements are no more than an obvious play, as it is public knowledge that he and the Islamists are one entity, and they ignited the war to eliminate the revolution as well as the political forces that overthrew Al-Bashir,” according to political analyst Daoud Khater’s expression.
