False Allegations.. South Sudan’s Foreign Ministry responds to the claims of Al Burhan’s Army

The government of the Republic of South Sudan denied the Sudanese Army’s allegations in regards to the participation of South Sudanese citizens in fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The spokesperson for the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuk Ayol Miyan, stated that “Al-Atta’s accusations and allegations, claiming that South Sudanese citizens are fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces are false, and General Al-Atta ought to remember his Army’s mercenary history,” according to her.
She added, “The reality is, there are groups opposed to the Juba regime fighting alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), including General Thomas and his forces, General Jafur Al-Ibaide and his forces, and 1st Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Almaz Deng. Why did Yasser Al-Atta fail to mention them?”
In a press conference in Juba, the spokesperson expressed grave regret “in regards to the statements of the Sudanese government following the unjustified and horrific massacres of South Sudanese citizens in Al-Jazeera state last month,” according to Abuk Ayol.
“On the 20th of January 2025, the media broadcasted video footage of General Yasser Al-Atta, the Assistant Commander-in-chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, addressing the troops from an unknown location. During this speech, he claimed that South Sudanese citizens constituted approximately (65%) of the Rapid Support Forces’ fighters. General Al-Atta continued to send mixed messages, expressing his confidence in President Salva Kiir and the leadership of the Republic of South Sudan, while -simultaneously- accusing South Sudan of doing nothing to prevent South Sudanese citizens from joining the Rapid Support Forces’ ranks,” she added.
The spokesperson for the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared that South Sudan “Believes that General Al-Atta is well aware, considering his extensive experience in South Sudan, that the Sudanese Army has a tradition of arming South Sudanese militias, and that the Sudanese Armed Forces has a specialized department called the Department of Popular and National Forces, that is tasked with recruiting South Sudanese citizens.”
