The last of the freedom fighters
Abu Obeida Barghouth

Similar to everyone else, I followed the speech of the great revolutionary and Rapid Support Forces’ Commander, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo. At the time, I was about to leave one of the beautiful places in East Africa, wandering into the warm embrace of (Mama Africa). Along the way that crosses the taxi station, my phone rings, on the other end of the call, was my veteran revolutionary father (Awad Hamid Barghouth). As per usual, this revolutionary man doesn’t offer condolences for the martyrs of the revolution and struggle. He doesn’t enquire about the current field situation on the ground, and he has his own philosophy in that regard. As we tend to always offer condolences for the martyrs upon achieving the desired victory, because that is a representation of the true meaning of loyalty to the souls of martyrs who lost their lives in order to achieve the dream of freedom and emancipation for others.
As for the field situation on the ground, my father always says, there are leaders who manage the war and they are far more knowledgeable than us, then he adds that our only mission is to support their efforts. My father was a great warrior, with an accurate sense of awareness in regards to the complexities and variables of wars, hence he asked me, do you wish for us to join the battlefronts? His voice sounded different as if he suspected that we might retreat from the liberation march!!!
Pay attention, my son, for if there is a leader -after the Khalifa- who came to liberate this nation, it is Commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, this great man who gave this nation hope for a decent life.
I had heard this statement in an earlier encounter, when I met -in one of the African capitals- an African activist who witnessed Mandela’s era, when he knew that I was Sudanese he asked me to accompany him and I later learned that the destination was where his daughter was waiting for him, therefore, I joined them. We learned in Africa and were taught from a young age to respect the precedence of age, hence, you ought to favor listening unless you are asked, and this is mother Africa with its customs and traditions.
The man asked me to take a seat and then surprised me with announcing; You are from Hemedti’s country !!! He was silent for a while and before I could answer he added, I mean you are Sudanese. I nodded my agreement, and he went on to instruct; Sit down, my son, on this chair and catch your breath, even though I have no knowledge of which side of the war in your country you support, I want to tell you that the leader (Hemedti) represents the last of the freedom fighters and the liberation of his people from the rule of minorities -that the colonizer deliberately left in power- in Africa. He is an extension of the liberation project that was inaugurated on the continent by the leader Nelson Mandela. I have familiarized myself with the developments of the war in Sudan and came to a realization, that this leader is indeed invested in the great liberation project and is trying his best to excuse the Sudanese people ignorant of the facts of reality or rather the issues of liberation in their country.
This leader is an extension of the Dar es Salaam group that brought together Yuri, Garang and others. The Sudanese people ought to understand that the path to freedom is long and arduous, in addition, many cowards and opportunists will fall on the side of the road, as this is the nature of life and humanity.
As I recall the leader’s speech, I -truly- came to realize that Mohamed Hamdan Daglo is an extension of the generation of Mandela and Garang in the liberation and emancipation Movements, and that the dictator is a coward, willing to use any means necessary to stay in power; however, the inevitability of history and the will for change and liberation say otherwise. For when the cries and lies of tyrants and privileged people grow louder, you can be certain it is the end…
