Port Sudan Authority prevents renewal of Zainab Al Mahdi’s passport

The de facto authority led by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Sudan prevented Zainab Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi from renewing her passport, by means of placing her name on the lists of banned names for reasons of affiliation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Zainab stated on her Facebook account that she arrived at the Sudanese Embassy with the appropriate paperwork, in accordance with the requirements of the reservation she made remotely. However, the employee told her about a name match, which requires her to obtain a letter from Port Sudan, because her name was on a list of approximately (150) others, banned for reasons of affiliation with the Rapid Support Forces.

Zainab considered the act of (inserting) her name on that list to be unlawful, illogical, and disregards rights. She added: “The citizenship rights that were taken from me (by adding my name to the list of banned names) similar to many others -men and women- without a crime, are by no means the first injustice i suffered at the hands of the oppressive regime that disregards rights.” She continued: “I am a citizen regardless.”
