Sandal: US Treasury sanctions on RSF Commander undermine peace efforts

The head of the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Suleiman Sandal, stated that the US Treasury sanctions on the Rapid Support Forces Commander seem to convey that perhaps they wish to undermine peace efforts as well as the diligent and sincere efforts made by a number of parties.

Suliman Sandal shared, in a tweet on the (X) platform that “The sanctions won’t affect the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces’ position in regards to the tireless pursuit and responsible national efforts in cooperation with everyone, aiming to stop this holocaust and put an end to the wars in our country once and for all.”

He explained that since the war was ignited by the National Congress Party (NCP), the Islamic Movement, its affiliated Army, and Al-Baraa Brigade, whose leader appeared in the Military’s General Command Headquarters on the day the first shot was fired; the positions of the Rapid Support Forces leadership were all responsive and dealing with all initiatives aimed at stopping the war positively, extending a hand of peace in order to end this suffering.

The head of the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement added that the US Treasury sanctions on the Rapid Support Forces Commander seem to convey that perhaps they want to undermine peace efforts as well as the diligent and sincere efforts made by a number of parties. In addition, it sends a rather negative message to those responsible for igniting the war in Sudan and inciting its continuation.

He stressed that the Sudanese people, who call for stopping the war, will continue putting forth their efforts, for they’re aware that the encompassing interests of their country require continuing to support any national, regional or international effort to stop the ongoing war that has entered its second year. In addition, these sanctions won’t affect the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces’ position in regards to the tireless pursuit and responsible national efforts in cooperation with everyone, aiming to stop this holocaust and put an end to the wars in our country once and for all, so that our people can enjoy stability and peace, as well as rebuild the Sudanese State on new foundations agreed upon by the supporters of the revolutionary forces.
