SAF arrests female volunteer in Bahri
The Bahri Emergency Room, north of the capital Khartoum, expressed its deep concern over the arrest of volunteer, Abeer Mohammed Fadl El-Sayed Farah, on December 15th, by the Military Intelligence of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in El-Samrab neighborhood.
The Emergency Room explained in a statement that Abeer, a mother of a one-year-old girl, had been providing humanitarian services since the outbreak of the war on April 15th, 2023.
Her volunteer efforts included -according to the Emergency Room- working in public kitchens to provide meals to affected citizens, despite the significant risks plaguing the area.
The Emergency Room considered Abeer’s arrest to be a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law, which guarantees the protection of humanitarian workers.
The statement called on Camp Commander, Maj. Gen. Nadeem Hamid Tibry, to intervene and release her -Abeer- immediately, in addition to ensuring her safety. Demanding that protection be provided to all volunteers working in the area, considering this a legal and humanitarian obligation.
The Emergency Room reiterated in its statement that volunteer work is a noble effort that is worthy of support and appreciation, emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians and humanitarian workers as well as ensuring that aid reaches those in need without obstacles.
