Teachers Committee accuses government of falsifying

numbers of Sudanese Certificate students

The Sudanese Teachers Committee accused the Federal Ministry of Education of falsifying the numbers of students taking the Sudanese Certificate -Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE)- exams for the postponed year of (2023), and stated that the actual number doesn’t exceed (200,000) students, while the Ministry of Education mentioned (330,000) male and female students.

The Teachers Committee added in a statement yesterday that the Sudanese government in Port Sudan is rather determined to mold education into being an entry point for division in Sudan, and a tributary of the war, in an attempt to legitimize the war and its consequences.

The Teachers Committee statement explained that, based on reports received from the various Sudanese states and statements from Education Directors in some states, it can be confirmed that the number provided as the number of students taking the exam is incorrect and the percentage mentioned -83%- is inaccurate.

As its rather common knowledge that the number provided prior to the war amounted to approximately (580,000) male and female students, and the Teachers Committee confirmed that the number registered so far hasn’t exceeded (200,000) students, in the best-case scenario.

The Teachers Committee announced its rejection of designing an educational process that excludes a significant number of Sudanese students, by the body responsible for providing education as a right for all Sudanese.

The Committee accused the government of failing to properly plan from the beginning, which forced it to change the dates of the exam sessions, due to the conflict -in schedule- between the usual dates and the school calendar in the Arab Republic of Egypt, noting that the school holiday in Egypt begins in mid-January, which only goes to confirm the true extent of the lack of coordination and arrangement, and that this certificate exams -at this time- aren’t intended for furthering the educational process, but rather -its main goal- is political par excellence.

The statement held the de facto government fully responsible for any shortcomings or consequences resulting from this decision and these ill-considered, hasty procedures.
