NOHRVS: Movements allied with SAF committed ethnic cleansing in Al-Zurruq

The National Observatory for Human Rights Violations – Sudan (NOHRVS) stated that the Armed Movements allied with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) committed a crime of (ethnic) cleansing against the people of (Al-Zurruq) area in North Darfur state.

The National Observatory shared in its statement:

The National Observatory for Human Rights Violations – Sudan followed the unfortunate massacre that targeted unarmed civilians in (Al-Zurruq) area in North Darfur state, western Sudan, as our sources reported that the Armed Movements allied with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) attacked innocent civilians in (Al-Zurruq) yesterday, December 21st, and committed crimes of ethnic cleansing, raping women and children on an ethnic and regional basis as part of the civil war plan.

According to the National Observatory’s sources in North Darfur state, the Armed Movements, upon entering (Al-Zurruq), bombed the rural (main) hospital, burned the market and civilian tents, kidnapped a number of local dignitaries, in addition, they assassinated (6) families -shot dead- and mutilated their bodies.

The National Observatory expresses its deep dissatisfaction and incessant grief in regards to the crimes committed against civilians in the various states of Sudan, and calls on international humanitarian and human rights organizations, as well as national organizations to urgently intervene to stop the targeted violence on the basis of race and color.

The National Observatory urges the warring parties in Sudan to refrain from targeting civilians who are guaranteed the right to live in peace and security in areas of armed conflict by international laws, treaties and conventions.

The National Observatory for Human Rights Violations – Sudan has managed to obtain preliminary information that confirms the death of (47) civilians, (13) of whom were women and (7) were infants.

The National Observatory continues to put forth efforts into the process of collecting more information in regards to the massacre that took place in (Al-Zurruq), which shelters thousands of people fleeing the horrors of the war raging in El-Fasher between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Islamic battalions and Armed Movements on the one hand, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the other for more than (5) consecutive months, during which civilians suffered from a cripplingly significant humanitarian tragedy, the magnitude of which, the region has yet to witness.
