Sudan’s Al-Hilal continues to shine in the CAF Champions League
Sudan’s Al-Hilal continues to surprise the masses in the CAF Champions League, as it strides confidently towards the quarter-finals, after achieving its second consecutive victory in the group stage, ending the match with its guest TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2-1) on Sunday in the first group of the group stage.
Al-Hilal raised its score to six points at the top of the first group, two points ahead of Mouloudia of Algeria, which comes in second with four points, TP Mazembe is third with one point, and Young Africans of Tanzania comes in fourth place with no points.
At the Cheikha Ould Boïdiya Stadium in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, Al-Hilal played against TP Mazembe, and was able to win with a goal scored by Mohamed Abdel Rahman (Al-Gharbal) from a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.
The two teams interchangeably seized control and opportunities, however midway through the second half, the young Oscar Kabwit (19 years old) brought the score to a tie with TP Mazembe, scoring powerfully from outside the penalty area straight into the top corner of the Sudanese goal (64).
Burundian Jean Girumugisha sealed the win for the Sudanese team with a rocket shot from the edge of the penalty area following a distinguished attack and a perfect pass from Wali Eldin Khidir in the (90+2) minute.
In Group D, a goalless draw dominated the match between Egyptian Pyramids and its host Djoliba of Mali in Bamako.
The Egyptian team wasted several chances to score and proceed at the top of the group, as it topped it with four points on goal difference ahead of Esperance before facing them in the next two rounds, home and away, with Sagrada Esperança of Angola in third place with one point and Djoliba in fourth place with the same points.
