South Sudan reveals arrival of SAF fugitives to its territory
Government authorities of Renk County in the South Sudanese state of Upper Nile shared that on Monday night, a military force affiliated with the Sudanese Army surrendered itself to the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in the (Halka) area on the border with Sudan’s White Nile state.
The Renk County Commissioner, Akoch Jol Achiek, explained in a statement to (Radio Tamazuj) that the group was led by an officer with a rank of ‘First Lieutenant’ and were in possession of a combat vehicle.
The Commissioner indicated that this development came as a result of the battles taking place in the Sudanese border areas with Renk County, between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces, specifically in Al-Tabun area of the White Nile state.
Commissioner Akoch Jol Achiek, revealed that another force affiliated with the Sudanese Army surrendered to the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in the (Gonumbar) area bordering Sennar state, without disclosing further information in regards to this force.
The Commissioner of Renk County indicated a new influx of people fleeing the fighting towards the border areas of Renk County, stating that the eastern areas of the county witnessed an influx of approximately seven thousand people. In addition to other areas on the border with Sennar and White Nile states.
He added that teams from humanitarian organizations headed to those areas to oversee the humanitarian conditions of these citizens.
The Commissioner appealed to the government authorities on national and state levels, as well as humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and contain the escalating crisis engulfing the border areas of his county, which -in turn- negatively affects the lives of its citizens in terms of security, economy and society.
