SAF airstrikes on areas in North Darfur kills 47 civilians
As a result of the airstrikes launched by the Sudanese Army warplanes on the areas of; Al-Koma, Mellit and Al-Zuruq in North Darfur state, (47) people were killed and dozens were injured, including children, women and the elderly, on Wednesday.
The Umda of the city of Al-Koma, Ibrahim Idris Ibrahim, explained that the bombing targeted several residential neighborhoods, which led to the immediate death of nine civilians and the injury of many others, as some of them were transferred to the rural hospital in order to receive treatment.
Ibrahim confirmed that among the dead were two siblings – under ten years old, in addition to an elderly woman and a young man of twenty-five years old.
The Umda noted that the city of Al-Koma has been subjected to more than (74) airstrikes since October 4th, where more than (250) bombs were launched, the last of which was on Wednesday, when eight bombs were dropped on the city.
Umda Ibrahim Idris reported that on Wednesday morning, an airstrike targeted the area of “Lawayed”, which is located about (11) kilometers west of Al-Koma, resulting in the death and injury of approximately (16) people.
He confirmed that warplanes had previously targeted the area – specifically the water source last November, completely destroying it. In addition to destroying numerous homes and institutions, which greatly affected the town’s infrastructure.
The Umda of the city of Al-Koma explained that the airstrikes that took place today were carried out by an Antonov warplane, targeting the town, which -according to his statement- has no military presence affiliated with any of the conflicting parties in the country.
For his part, a medical source at Al-Koma Hospital confirmed the arrival of (11) wounded civilians, in addition to obtaining burial permits for (9) others.
Al-Koma is facing a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, which further exacerbates the severity of the health conditions of the wounded.
Notably, warplanes had launched airstrikes on the town of Al-Koma on the 4th of October, claiming the lives of (61) people and injuring approximately (200) others, according to the latest statistics from the rural hospital in the area.
