Sudden cancelation of US Special Envoy’s visit to Sudan

Informed sources revealed that the visit of US Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello to Port Sudan on Sunday was canceled.

US Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello was expected to arrive in Port Sudan yesterday, Sunday, on an official visit, the first since the outbreak of the ongoing war.

The visit was canceled suddenly, according to “Asharq”, due to logistical reasons.

US Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello has accused the Sudanese government, which is controlled by the Army, more than once of obstructing the arrival of (90%) of emergency relief aid to those in need across the country.

Tom Perriello stated in a post on the (X) platform: “(6.5) million people urgently need food in Sudan to survive, and (25) million people in general need emergency humanitarian aid.”

He added: “However, last month, the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission allowed only (10%) of humanitarian supplies in Port Sudan to reach those in desperate need of food and medicine.”

“The authorities in Port Sudan have blocked or delayed (90%) of emergency relief supplies, and those who are suffering in Kadugli or Khartoum, or in Nyala or the north, we need to find common ground on how to streamline the flow of emergency food and medicine to every corner of Sudan as quickly as possible,” he continued.

Perriello urged the Humanitarian Aid Commission to put forth more efforts into facilitating access for the UN and other humanitarian actors to all parts of Sudan, by ensuring that the Adre border crossing remains open. As it is rather unacceptable to use starvation as a weapon.
