Zamzam Committee warns Joint Forces fleeing El-Fasher against using IDPs as human shields

The Coordination Committee of Zamzam IDPs Camp in North Darfur state warned the Joint Forces, on Tuesday, against using IDPs in the camp as human shields, fortifying outposts inside the camp to lure the Rapid Support Forces.

The Coordination Committee sharedd in a warning statement that it aims to draw the attention of local and international public opinion to the suspicious movements of the Joint Forces that withdrew from El-Fasher at dawn and entered Zamzam IDPs Camp and began fortifying outposts inside the camp.

The statement added that the Camp houses thousands of civilians, which will inevitably lead to luring the Rapid Support Forces to storm it.
In the statement, the Coordination Committee explained:

Zamzam Camp Coordination Committee for Displaced Persons – El-Fasher

Urgent warning statement

The Coordination Committee warns, drawing the attention of local and international public opinion to the suspicious movements of the Joint Forces that withdrew at dawn from the city of El-Fasher and entered Zamzam Camp for Displaced Persons, where they began building fortifications inside the camp, which houses thousands of civilians. This inevitably leads to luring the Rapid Support Forces to storm the camp.

Turning the displaced persons areas into a potential battlefield and using the IDPs as human shields is a flagrant violation of human rights. We demand these forces’ immediate withdrawal from the camp, to retire to the battlefield they left behind, in an effort to avoid thrusting the displaced persons into the midst of a battle that isn’t theirs and a war they have tasted the bitterness of before.

We reaffirm our belief that any deterioration in the situation or the fall of victims inside the camp is the responsibility of the Joint Forces, as these forces seek to exploit our suffering as displaced persons to achieve political and military agendas. We call on the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop the transfer of the war to Zamzam Camp, and to play its role in protecting the displaced.
