Chad hints at Sudan’s involvement in former President’s death

The Chadian government has hinted at Sudan’s involvement in the killing of its former president, Idriss Déby Itno, accusing Sudan of financing and arming terrorist groups with the aim of destabilizing Chad.

The Chadian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and official government spokesman, Abderrahmane Ghulam Allah, shared in a statement yesterday that the Sudanese regime throughout the decades continued to create, train, finance and arm rebel movements to destabilize Chad, holding the military authorities in Sudan responsible for the rebellion of the (FACT) group, which he stated was the reason for the death of the former Chadian President on April 20th, 2021, after he was injured in an attack launched by rebels in the north the day after he was elected president of the country for the sixth time.

Ghulam Allah denied the accusations made by what he called the Sudanese “military authorities” against Chad of supporting the Rapid Support Forces, and continued: “Chad rejects these false allegations, as it has put forth significant efforts for the achievement of peace in Sudan.”
