Sudan: Malnutrition is claiming the lives of children

The de facto government in Port Sudan acknowledged on Monday the death of (3) children due to malnutrition amid an increasing number of children suffering from diseases associated with malnutrition.

The Southern Belt Emergency Room in Khartoum stated in a post on its Facebook account that “The Therapeutic Nutrition Department at Bashayer Hospital witnessed the death of three children under the age of two due to complications of malnutrition that has become a threat to children in the Southern Belt area.”

The Emergency Room added that “Malnutrition is one of the diseases that might lead to numerous health risks that could lead to death in children, especially in light of the war currently taking place in the region,” noting that this has led to a significant increase in cases of malnutrition among newborns and young children.

The Southern Belt area, which includes the neighborhoods of Al-Inqaz, Al-Azhari, Al-Salama, and Mayo, has witnessed ongoing Military Operations between the Army and the Rapid Support Forces for a long period of time, according to the German News Agency.

The health sector in Sudan is suffering from a major deterioration, as (80%) of the health facilities in conflict areas have stopped providing services, amid a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies.
