Mariam and Siddiq Al Mahdi face obstacles in Cairo

Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, a leader in the Umma Party, stated that the Sudanese embassy in Egypt had refused to issue her a passport because her name was on the indictment list.

She also pointed out that the embassy had refused to grant passports to the children of Siddiq Al-Mahdi for the same aforementioned reason. Mariam explained that the embassy took it a step further and refused to issue her a residence certificate.

In a related context, she mentioned that the authorities in Port Sudan had arrested the lawyer representing the accused, which prevented him from knowing the details of the investigation.

Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi confirmed that her family doesn’t have another nationality or official refugee status, stressing that this is a blatant violation of their rights to equal citizenship.
