Egypt deports hundreds of Sudanese and a crisis at the Argeen crossing
The Egyptian authorities deported hundreds of Sudanese refugees on its territory for flimsy reasons according to the deportees, amid a humanitarian crisis at the Argeen land port border crossing to deport the deportees back into the country.
The executive director of Halfa locality, Abu Obeida Mirghani Burhan, acknowledged the various obstacles hindering the process of deportation from Egypt, noting that the financial situation represents a major obstacle to the return of deportees to their safe states.
Burhan called on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), on Wednesday to play an effective role in organizing the deportation process through the Ashkeit and Argeen border crossings between Egypt and Sudan.
The Egyptian authorities are pursuing Sudanese refugees on its territory, amidst Sudanese discontent with the arbitrary measures taken by Cairo against the Sudanese.
