Red Warning Bulletin Issued.. “SMA” warns
of violent floods in (9) states
This bulletin is the first of its kind this year, after torrential floods swept through the states of Kassala, the Red Sea, River Nile, West Darfur as well as the Northern state, destroying thousands of homes and agricultural acres, and causing severe damage to the infrastructure, including the “Arbaat” Dam.
The Sudan Meteorological Authority “SMA” shared in a statement that “Very heavy rains are expected, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in the states of Kassala, River Nile, El-Gedaref, Khartoum, Blue Nile, North and South Kordofan, as well as the Northern state and North Darfur.”
The Authority’s statement indicated that these expected rains “may lead to floods,” which requires taking measures to avoid them and secure lives and property.
The local authorities in these states called for taking the highest levels of caution and preparedness, and urged the citizens to take precautions and keep a safe distance from valleys and creeks, as well as avoid dilapidated housing.
On the 22nd of August, the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources warned of an expected rise in the levels of the Nile, White Nile, Blue Nile, and Atbara Rivers.
The floods that swept across widespread areas were accompanied by epidemic diseases such as cholera, eye infections, and malaria, amidst concerns that the health system won’t be able to respond effectively to these diseases, after the ongoing conflict destroyed (80%) of the medical care facilities.
