“Blinken” discusses with “Fidan” the cessation of war in Sudan
The US State Department shared that Secretary of State, Antony Blinken discussed today with Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan the need to stop the escalation of violence in Sudan and the urgent need for both -the Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces- to participate in the upcoming talks scheduled to be held on the 14th of August in Switzerland.
The US State Department added in a statement that both sides discussed the deteriorating situation in Sudan, where ongoing clashes between the Army and the Rapid Support Forces have resulted in a large number of civilian casualties and widespread displacement of the population.
The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken affirmed the United States’ commitment to achieving a comprehensive cessation of hostilities that has brought the country to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Blinken expressed his appreciation for Türkiye’s role in achieving regional stability, especially in regards to the mediation between “Ethiopia” and “Somalia”.
The Secretary of State added that the United States, along with other international partners, continue to push for a unified approach to ending the violence in Sudan and ensuring the participation of all key parties in the peace process.
