Heavy rains destroy hundreds of homes in “Abu Hamad”
Unusually, heavy rains and torrential floods swept through the city of “Abu Hamad” in Northern part of the country, River Nile state. Which resulted in the destruction of a large number of homes and causing the residents very significant property losses.
The heavy rains on Monday continued for (9) hours in the city of “Abu Hamad” causing very large material losses that have yet to be estimated.
According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of homes collapsed, as did shops in the city’s main market.
In the early hours of dawn, the mosques around the city were calling for anyone who could help and get the elderly and children out of their homes safely.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that a large number of women, elderly people and children were injured and were taken to the hospital, however no official list of casualties and wounded has been issued yet, suggesting that there are large human and material losses.
Witnesses described the situation as catastrophic, indicating that large numbers of citizens are present in the Grand Mosque in the area, fearing the collapse of their homes, while activists launched relief efforts for the village of “Al-Hibail” in Al-Jazeera and “Al-Jabaliyah,” where residents are facing tragic conditions and collapsed homes, amid reports of people trapped between the Nile and the villages.
Medical teams rushed to “Abu Hamad” Hospital due to the large number of injured patients. The mills (gold) market was widely affected by the continuous rainfall.
