“Sudan Liberation”: “Port Sudan” sent explosive barrels

The Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance condemned the Army’s warplanes aerial attack, at dawn on Monday, bombing the “Zamzam” Camp for the displaced persons in North Darfur state, using explosive barrels. As the area of Square 12 – part of “Zamzam” Camp “A”, and the “Sha’eria” neighborhood in “Zamzam” Camp “B” were targeted. The first barrel didn’t explode, while the second resulted in property losses and partial destruction of some homes.

The Alliance shared in a statement that the cowardly attack was launched days after the official declaration of famine in “Zamzam” Camp by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), adding: “Instead of the de facto government in Port Sudan assuming its responsibility towards the hungry people in (Zamzam) Camp by sending humanitarian aid, it sent them explosive barrels launched by its Armed Forces’ warplanes to add terror to their hunger.”

The statement continued, explaining that the Alliance condemns the airstrikes on “Zamzam” Camp by the Armed Forces, for it shelters hundreds of thousands of civilians displaced from their homes due to the horrors of war, and warning against targeting displaced persons camps by the Armed Forces’ airstrikes, as those camps don’t house any military targets or gatherings, and targeting them is considered a war crime under International Law.
