Switzerland.. The New Light
Switzerland is a new light.. Towards an integrated approach to stop the war first and then end it.. The Army’s decision is to side with the people or the remnants ?
Yasser Arman
A Chinese proverb states that: (An angry man shouldn’t start a war, for his anger will eventually wither, but the casualties will never return). Most of the wars around the world are declared by men, and in most cases, war is a man and peace is a woman, so bless the women who were the victims of eaelier wars.
Since the beginning of the April 15th war, and based on our extensive experience, I have been writing in an attempt to reach a common understanding between the democratic forces that are the original advocates for stopping the war and those with the real interest in peace, as well as for the purpose of clarifying concepts and forming common positions.
There are two interconnected stages within the framework of one comprehensive process and integrated approach. The first stage is, stopping the war through requiring the commitment of its parties to address the humanitarian catastrophe, stop the violations, and protect civilians on the ground.
The second stage is, to end the war by addressing its root causes, establishing the State, and completing the goals of the revolution.
Both aforementioned stages are interconnected, as war is a closed space, and stopping the war provides an open and healthy space for the political process to thrive.
Currently, there is a new light on the horizon with the invitation from the hosts of the “Jeddah Platform” that can very well lead to this integrated approach:
1. It’s worth emphasizing that Switzerland is exclusively a humanitarian platform, which was clearly stated in the US Secretary of State’s statement, where he called for a new phase of negotiation on the 14th of August. The parties to the humanitarian platform aren’t tasked with planning and forming the political platform that determines the future of Sudan.
If we want to achieve sustainable solutions, we must listen to the voice of the people and their revolution, which demanded the establishment of the State, building a professional Sudanese Army, and forming a Democratic State based on citizenship, freedom, peace, justice, in addition, the ousted regime’s holdouts shouldn’t be rewarded for igniting their war.
2. The importance of what is happening in Switzerland is that it is supported by the Security Council, in a rare and important agreement between its members, in addition to the firm support from the United States of America. Which lends significant importance to the issue of the forgotten war in Sudan. Moreover, Sudan’s neighboring countries, the region and its organizations appear to be increasingly interested in stopping the war.
3. The Rapid Support Forces agreed and went as far as to announce its willingness, which is a commendable position that deserves to be welcomed.
4. The geopolitical situation in the Red Sea and beyond is witnessing rapid developments, regional and international powers as well recognize that Sudan connects (the Sea, the Coast, and the Horn) the Red Sea, the African Coast, and the Horn of Africa, which is an important distinction that motivates interest in Sudan’s war.
5. The Djibouti meeting this week, which includes regional and international powers, increases the unprecedented momentum to address the humanitarian catastrophe, protect civilians, and stop the war.
6. Switzerland is part of Europe. However, the representation of the European Union as an observer and its countries are a stone’s throw away from the war in Sudan, the Sahel and the Horn of Africa is required.
7. The Army and its leadership are dealing with a strategic issue, and the invitation to participate in this meeting is a vital one and requires the implementation of the voice of reason and wisdom, without paying attention to the remnants and their lies, especially since the National Congress Party has declared its support for stopping the war.
Lastly, the invitation in reality serves the people as well as the parties to the conflict, and the continuation of the war will tear Sudan apart, magnify the displacement issue, and lead to the collapse of the State. Whoever wishes the war would continue to wreak havoc, may return to it, however, peace is a rather rare currency.
Our people deserve peace and for the war to end, so that the displaced persons can return to their villages and cities of origin and begin a credible political process to build a new regime and State in an open space.
For the new and accelerating developments to take their real momentum, the issue of stopping the war is unanimously agreed upon among the revolutionary forces and those who desire democratic civil rule. It must be the basis of their unity so that a critical mass with a comprehensive vision can be reached and an integrated approach can be established in managing the processes of stopping and ending the war.
The ousted regime’s holdouts shouldn’t be rewarded for igniting their war, they shouldn’t be granted an opportunity to make a comeback through a miserable partnership. Rather, the State should be established, the revolution completed, and peace sustained.
Revolution is more lasting than war.
