The “Compulsory Service” obsession worries the youth in Kassala
The Police and Military Intelligence Forces in the state of Kassala, east of the country, launched intensive campaigns on social establishments, such as: clubs, markets and cafes to apprehend young people and recruit them for the Army Forces in their war against the Rapid Support Forces.
A number of young people told “Assayha” that campaigns to apprehend young people in Kassala are intensified after sunset (Maghreb Prayer) in markets, clubs and cafes. They added that young people would rather stay indoors than go out, in an effort to avoid the risk of Compulsory Service campaigns.
They pointed out that some families went as far as to leave Kassala recently feeling panicked and dissatisfied with the prospect of Compulsory Service to pressure their young into fighting alongside the Army.
While news is circulating about the return of the notorious Compulsory Service, the authorities deny all claims and state that young men have made the choice to enter the training camps voluntarily.
