Starvation is “Al-Kizan’s” lethal weapon

At a time when more than (19) humanitarian organization, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees “UNHCR” and the United Nations Relief Agency, have warned that if they continue to be prevented from providing aid to the Sudanese citizens promptly and on a large scale, Famine is likely to take hold in every region of Sudan.

Currently, the de facto government in Port Sudan is seizing the lion’s share of the relief to feed its soldiers, because the budget allocated isn’t enough to provide food for them while they continue to fight, and what remains of the relief finds its way into the markets -through brokers who function as the link between officials and (black market) merchants- to be sold at significantly exorbitant prices to the very people who deserve to have it for free in the regions under the Army control.

Perhaps some humanitarian organization’s insistence on directly undertaking the process of coordinating and delivering relief to those in need reveals the true extent of lack of trust and transparency that characterizes Al-Kizan Army, which has a long history stained with the shame of corruption in regards to the international aid for Sudanese citizens.
Throughout the history of humanitarian crises in Sudan -and they are numerous- utilizing food as a weapon was a well-known feature of the Islamic Movement Army. They used it during the war in South Sudan as well as the wars against the people of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, and the Blue Nile state. To the extent of deliberately sabotaging the local resources of citizens in these areas and preventing the provision of humanitarian relief for the purpose of bringing societies to their knees utilizing hunger as a weapon.

The praiseworthy aspect of this tragedy is the fig leaf falling from this corrupt gang, revealing rather clearly that it is risking the lives of (18) million citizens facing hunger and (3.6) million children suffering from Acute Malnutrition, according to statistics. For they are using humanitarian aid only as a ploy recruit for political gain.
