The musician Osama “Piccolo” passing
The famous Sudanese musician, Osama Babikir, known as “Osama Piccolo,” died after much suffering from heart disease.
Osama Babikir was famous for playing the “Piccolo” instrument until his name became associated with his beloved instrument, as he played it with a number of musical bands of major Sudanese artists, most notably the late Mohammed Al-Amin and Salah Ibn Al-Badiya.
Piccolo gifted us with immortal pieces, “A Tour in the Old Neighborhood, Eid Morning, and Spring of Love,” as well as “Something in the Mind” which is considered one of the most prominent musical albums using the “Piccolo” instrument, as the deceased placed the piccolo in the solo position, with the rest of the musical instruments in the secondary position. The instrument plays a purely major musical role, not an accompaniment.
Osama Babikir is a music education teacher and academic who lived in the “UAE” for (13) years to study this subject. He once said about the “Piccolo” instrument: “It is being treated unjustly and placed at the back in the orchestra with loud voices, but it adds luminescence and elegance to the musical piece.”
