Forensics reveal horrific details about lawyer Salah’s death at the hands of “SAF” and Security members
The Sudanese Congress Party has uncovered horrific facts related to the killing of lawyer Salah al-Din al-Tayeb Musa, head of the 24th al-Qurashi sub-district party branch in Al-Jazeera state, whose head was found to be split open after his grave was exhumed by the forensic doctor last Friday.
The Sudanese Congress Party shared in a press statement that the grave was exhumed by the prosecutor and the forensic doctor -who was brought from the city of Ed Dueim in the White Nile state- and in the presence of officers from the Army and Security service. The statement added: “His head was found to be split open, as it appears he had been beaten with a solid, sharp object, resulting in a gash in the head, thus, the coroner concluded that the death occurred as a result of the victim being subjected to torture.”
The tragedy of lawyer Salah al-Din al-Tayeb brings to mind the murder of Doctor Ali Fadl, the first victim of the former ousted regime, who was injured by a sharp instrument; “a nail to the head,” during torture that ultimately caused his death in the early nineties of the previous century. At the time, fingers of accusation were pointed to Dr. Nafi’e Ali Nafi’e, Director of the Security Service at the time, and the information was later confirmed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ibrahim Nayel Edam, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Congress Party, Ibrahim El-Sanousi, in a trial session of the June 30th 1989 coup plotters.
The Sudanese Congress Party’s statement divulged that the body of the deceased Salah al-Din al-Tayeb was laid to rest in a solemn procession, attended by the youth and elderly in the region, and sorrow prevailed over the people of the region as a result.
The statement initially shared that the deceased Salah al-Din was arrested from his home, blindfolded and handcuffed. He was also gagged with a piece of cloth and thrown in a pickup truck, in front of his family in a rather humiliating manner, causing them to become extremely terrified, after he received them in his home’s salon in a good manner. The statement added, the victim and others (activists in volunteer and service work in the region) were taken to the secondary school in “Al-Azazi” area, which -according to the statement- had been converted into a ghost house, and they were placed in classrooms that had been converted into cells.
The statement explained that following his arrest, his family and acquaintances took the initiative to go to the officer in charge and enquire about the condition of the deceased and the reasons for his arrest. The officer claimed that Salah al-Din had fled on the night of his arrest and that they have no knowledge of his whereabouts. The statement indicated that the officer who arrested the deceased Salah is a well-known person and resident of the region.
The Sudanese Congress Party’s statement explained that after 12 days, one of the activists detained by the Military Intelligence was released. He was simply in a deplorable condition as a result of being subjected to continuous forms of torture, that included; electric shocks, pulling out nails, and the use of what he described as various immoral, irreligious and internationally prohibited methods.
The Party’s statement conveyed that the activist confided to those close to him a few days after his release that he had seen the deceased on the morning of their arrest, at sunrise, lying on the ground covered in blood and in a state of unconsciousness.
Family and friends of Salah al-Din in the region continued to place pressure on the Military Intelligence officials to either release or disclose the whereabouts of the deceased, whilst they kept insisting that he had fled and they have no idea about his whereabouts.
The Sudanese Congress Party’s statement noted that on the morning of May 9th, Security and Army officers from various divisions met and summoned his brother, where they told him that the deceased Salah had been stung by a scorpion and some insects in the classroom in which he was detained, leading to his death, and that his detainers had made a mistake by burying him in the open.
However, upon exhuming the grave by the prosecutor and the forensic doctor, the deceased’s head was found open due to being beaten with a solid, sharp object, enough to cause his head to split open. Therefore, the forensic doctor concluded that death occurred as a result of the martyr being subjected to torture.
The Sudanese Congress Party in Al-Jazeera state reiterated that it will not tire until the perpetrators of this crime are held accountable, pledging to take all available legal actions to bring them to justice, and to expand efforts towards holding all perpetrators of crimes and violations accountable, bringing them to justice, until rights are restored. The Party also stressed the they will put forth efforts into readily updating the public with all information and facts available.
