U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan testifies before Congress

The U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, provides testimony regarding the situation in Sudan before the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, in a session scheduled for today, Wednesday.

Tom Perriello participates in the meetings of the AU Expanded Mechanism for the Resolution of the Sudan Crisis and “IGAD” concerning Sudan in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The American Special Envoy expressed the US government’s interest in close cooperation with the African Union and partners in order to put forth joint efforts into putting an end to the war and humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

He indicated an urgency in taking organized and fast-paced steps by everyone.

Perriello welcomed the comments of the African Union and the United Nations regarding El-Fasher and the serious humanitarian consequences of the attacks that targeted the city. He brought to attention their admonitory of the danger of escalating tensions between both parties to the conflict, calling for the need to stop hostilities in El-Fasher immediately.
