“Al-Mahamid”: Musa Hilal represents only himself
Tribal leaders of the Mahamid clan – one of the Rezeigat tribe’s sub-clans – disavowed Musa Hilal’s statements where he declared his bias towards the army.
Emir Sanusi Al-Taher Karshoum stated in a press conference in El-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, that Al-Mahamid were greatly affected by the army’s war, in which the army did not distinguish between unarmed citizens and the Rapid Support Forces.
He pointed out that members of the army have become “ISIS” and extremist groups that kill innocent citizens on tribal basis. He added, “Our position is to fight this war alongside the Rapid Support Forces until the end without backing down because the war has been imposed on us.”
For his part, Emir Abdul Rahman Kabro stated ” we, as the Mahamid clan, did not authorize Musa Hilal to speak on our behalf.” Adding: “We represent more than 75% of the Rapid Support Forces. How could we join the army that has long been controlled by extremist Islamic groups that kill and mutilate our sons?”
Emir Masar Abdul-Rahman Esael reiterated that the Mahamid clan is the backbone of the Rapid Support Forces, for freedom, justice and equality, and accused the army forces of eliminating the citizens in El-Geneina using “tanks” and lethal weapons, in addition to opening weapons stores for the “Masalit” tribe that was warring with them in El-Geneina.
He affirmed their full support for the Rapid Support Forces against army forces that has long ruled Sudan with lies, killing, displacement, and the dismantling of tribes.
Masar added that in the civil administrations of Al-Mahamid, we did neither authorize Musa Hilal to speak on behalf of the tribe, nor is he its guardian.
In similar context, Emir Mohammed Musa Khater shared that “Whoever hopes that we will leave the RSF, is in for a long wait.” He added it was the RSF that supported the glorious December revolution in order to establish justice and equality.
In addition, Emir Hafez Taj al-Din said that “the Mahamid clan gave martyrs and wounded for the cause defended by the Rapid Support Forces, and we cannot retreat after reaching midway”. He added, “Even if Hemedti wants to join the army before our case is resolved, we will be the Rapid Support Forces without him.”
Taj al-Din wondered: “How could we join the army that bombards our people day and night with explosive barrels?” He went on to explain: “The Janjaweed forces that they accuse us of being were founded by Al-Burhan, and we are witnesses to that.”
