The Sudan Liberation Movement “Minnawi” faction’s split
The office of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army “Minnawi” leadership in East Darfur, announced in a press conference yesterday, the submission of mass resignations from the Movement, reiterating their neutral position in the ongoing war between the Army and Rapid Support Forces, as well as their support for the democratic civil transformation sought by the Sudanese people.
Mohammed Hussein, Secretary of Legal and Constitutional Affairs of the Movement, in East Darfur state, stated that the Movement affirms its unyielding position of neutrality and not supporting any of the parties to the conflict, in addition to their commitment to the principles of the Movement and calling for the democratic civil transformation. He urged the civil administrations and youth to put forth efforts of raising awareness to neutralize societal stances in order to eliminate the risk of determination into civil war.
He added, the decision to depart from neutrality represents an individual decision taken by the head of the Movement alongside a small “group” residing in Port Sudan. He considered the decision of the head of the Movement, “Minnawi”, a violation of the principles of the Movement, and a hijacking of its decisions. Additionally, he reaffirmed support for the initiatives calling for putting an end to the war.
