Sudan.. witnessing a massive wave of displacement
in South Kordofan
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that, South Kordofan state, in southern Sudan, is witnessing a massive wave of displacement due to ongoing hostilities between the Sudanese Army (SAF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), led by Abdulaziz Al-Hilu.
The (IOM) reported in a statement that: “Armed conflicts broke out between (SAF) and (SPLM-N) led by Abdulaziz Al-Hilu in Al-Kwaik village, within the eastern countryside locality, in South Kordofan state.”
According to the IOM’s field teams, the armed conflicts resulted in a large-scale displacement from the eastern countryside locality.”
“About 204 families, the majority of whom were previously displaced from the city of Kadugli, in South Kordofan, were yet again seeking shelter in villages across the eastern countryside locality.” the (IOM) statement reported. Noting that “the situation remains tense and unpredictable.”
During the previous four years, the government in Khartoum and the (SPLM-N) extended their ceasefire agreement in the areas under their respective control.
